Aug 19, 2017 For a couple of days Im trying to get the right feeds/speeds for Aluminium (6082). Im only making wires and lots of bird nests. information on the box (the ccgt inserts). ap - .060. fn .004/r. vc 492 stm. I played around with these settings but 0 result. The surface finish is fine.

Aside from balancing tools that wont destroy your spindle at high RPM, harmonics testing is really an awesome advantage for machining aluminum. Since aluminum is so buttery, you can cut it at really intense speeds. Harmonics testing will help you find those resonant frequencies of the tools and let you work out the sweet spot speeds and feeds.

Aug 21, 2011 Feed Rate= RPM x Num of Teeth x Chip Load. So for example with a 1/4 HSS endmill in steel, your RPM should be: RPM = 4 x 100/.25 = 1600. Your feedrate should be: Feed Rate = 1600 x 2 x .25/200 = 4 ipm. This a starting point, I usually crank down a little from these recommended settings to see how the machine responds.

Optimizing feed rates and speeds: 1. Start off using an RPM derived for the chip load for the material being cut (see charts). 2. Increase the cutting speed (feed rate) until the quality of the parts finish starts to decrease or the part is starting to move from hold downs. Then decrease speed by 10%. 3.

Feb 20, 2016 Feb 20, 2016 Franko. Decrease your feed speed and run your lathe as fast as it will go. Turn the tool so it almost is flat against the part, cutting with the side of the point. Make shallow passes as the tool can dig in at that angle. Thats what I did for years before I found out you are supposed to cut aluminum at high speed.

Feeds and speeds formula. First is the formula to find the RPM, RPM = SFM* X 3.82 / diameter of the tool (* SFM = Surface Feet per Minute) You can also use the RPM calculator below. Next, the formula for the feedrate uses the RPM from the previous calculation, Feedrate = RPM
SFM = Surface Feet per Minute FPR = Feed Per Revolution. Starting parameters only. Length-to-diameter ratios, setup, and machine rigidity may affect performance.
