Jan 29, 2019 Posted December 25, 2018. Ive cut 3/8 threaded rod in bulk with a band saw, just by taping 10 rods together tightly at the measurements where I wanted the cuts. Then, just cut. If I wanted 10 pieces, Id tape the rods together at 10, then cut the middle of the tape. Ive done this several times and had great results.
Step 1: Cut Round Bar to Length. Steel round bar measuring 20, 24, or 40 in length is band saw cut or sheared to a length a few inches longer than the desired finished product. Step 2: Cut Thread. Instead of rolling the thread as mass-producers do, most nonstandard all thread rod is threaded by cutting the threads into steel round bar.
Threaded rod, often referred to as a stud, is a rod of varying length that is threaded in a helical structure. Similar in appearance to a screw, the threading extends around and along the rod to cause rotational movements when in use. Threaded rods combine linear and rotational movement to create strong resistance to pressure.

Jul 28, 2017 The thing is, one tends to take for granted how bolts are made. When a nut starts easily on a bolt, thats no accident, the end of the bolt is finished for that effect. If you simply lop off a threaded rod - even if the cut is perfect, like a waterknife - it will still be awkward to start the thread because it hasnt been finished like a bolt.
Aluminum is a lightweight metal with a strong weight-to-strength ratio that makes it useful in many manufacturing processes from auto aftermarket installations such as roll bars to the construction of hiker backpacks. For effective use, though, builders need to be able to bend the rods.
Dec 21, 2019 Aluminum sheet is any aluminum sheet metal thicker than foil but thinner than plate (sheet is under .249 thick, while plate metal is .250 and above.) Cutting threads on a steel rod requires a die set. A cutting die is the sister tool of a tap. A tap cuts threads into material, and a die cuts threads around material. When the threads are cut correctly, a hex nut will thread onto the threaded section of the steel rod. This allows you to use the threaded steel rod as a structural fastener or ...

Put a nut on at the place you want to cut the rod then use it as a guide to keep the blade straight, when you unscrew the nut it should clean any ragged edges ...
Begin to cut, remembering to only put pressure on the downward stroke. Step 4 Make sure that you support the other end of the rod as you near the end of the cut, as this will prevent it from bending or breaking before you finish. You can then smooth off the edge with a metal file to ensure that there are no sharp ridges or jagged edges.
